Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max: Specs, Price and Release Date
A variable aperture, a 2nm A20 Pro chip and a bigger battery — here's what the leaks reveal about Apple's next flagship.
Apple has not confirmed a single iPhone 18 Pro Max specification yet, but the leaks already paint a fairly clear picture. The launch is expected in September 2026 — rumours point to the 8th–10th, with sales starting around the 18th–19th.
Camera — the biggest change
The headline upgrade: the main 48 MP lens should gain a variable aperture — a first in iPhone history. It would let you control how much light reaches the sensor and manage depth of field more precisely, both in daylight and at dusk. According to reports, Apple is developing a new three-layer sensor together with Samsung. The front camera should also get a higher resolution — sources cite anything from 24 to 48 MP.
A20 Pro chip
The new A20 Pro is expected to be built on TSMC's 2nm process with WMCM packaging, where the RAM is integrated onto the same die as the processor. Apple is reportedly targeting up to 15% more speed and 30% better efficiency than the A19 Pro chip used in the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Display and design
The 6.9-inch screen should move to the more efficient LTPO+ technology. There is talk of a smaller Dynamic Island and even an under-display Face ID, though these rumours remain contradictory for now. The body may get slightly thicker and heavier (around 240 g), with a single-colour back. Expected colours are silver, dark grey, light blue and Dark Cherry.
Battery and connectivity
The battery is rumoured to exceed 5,200 mAh (for comparison, the 17 Pro Max has 5,088 mAh). The new C2 modem should support satellite internet access (NR-NTN), not just emergency messaging.
Versions and price
The iPhone 18 Pro Max should come in four storage tiers: 256 GB, 512 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB. The price is not yet announced — some leaks suggest the same level as the 17 Pro Max, others up to $200 more.
