Sony has announced the Alpha A7R VI, a 66.8MP full-frame mirrorless camera with a new stacked Exmor RS sensor that shoots 30fps in uncompressed RAW — a first for the high-resolution A7R line.

Sony officially unveiled the Alpha A7R VI (ILCE-7RM6) on May 13, 2026. It ships June 20, 2026 at approximately $4,499 USD / €5,100 (body only).

Sensor and Speed

The A7R VI is built around a new 66.8MP full-frame BSI stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor paired with the BIONZ XR2 processor. Compared to the Sony Alpha A7R V (61MP), readout speed is 5.6x faster, enabling blackout-free shooting at 30fps in 14-bit uncompressed RAW with AF/AE tracking. A pre-capture mode buffers up to 1 second of frames before the shutter is pressed.

The BIONZ XR2 delivers up to 16 stops of dynamic range and improved noise reduction across the mid-ISO range.

Autofocus

759 phase-detection AF points cover 94% of the frame, with the system performing 60 AF calculations per second. Real-time Recognition AF+ uses skeletal-based human pose estimation to keep subjects in focus even when they briefly move behind obstacles.

Image Stabilization and Video

The 5-axis IBIS delivers 8.5 stops of compensation at the center (up from 8 stops in the A7R V) and 7 stops at the periphery. A new Dynamic Active stabilization mode — new to the A7R series — smooths handheld video during walking shots.

For video, the A7R VI is a proper hybrid: 8K 30fps full-frame with oversampling and 4K 120fps uncropped. The A7R V was limited to cropped 8K and 4K capped at 60fps.

Other Specs

The EVF offers 9.44 million dots and is 3x brighter than the A7R V, supporting DCI-P3 color space and 10-bit HLG HDR. The NP-SA100 battery delivers 710 shots per CIPA and carries 17% more capacity than previous models. Dual card slots accept CFexpress Type-A and SDHC/SDXC UHS-II cards.

Who It Is For

The A7R VI breaks the assumption that high-resolution cameras belong only in the studio. At 30fps with reliable AF and 66.8MP in one body, it handles commercial, landscape, and fashion work as readily as sports and documentary. Browse all Sony cameras to compare options.

If the price is a stretch, the A7R VI announcement pushed Sony Alpha A7R V to its lowest-ever price — still a strong choice for most photographers.
