Apple Watch Series 10 vs Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic: Which Should You Buy?

One works only with an iPhone, the other only with Android — so which of these two flagship smartwatches deserves your wrist?

Two smartwatches sit at the top of most shopping lists in 2026, and they could hardly be more different. The Apple Watch Series 10 is the thinnest, most refined watch Apple has ever made. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic brings back the beloved rotating steel bezel and pairs it with Samsung's newest health sensors. The catch: one works only with an iPhone, the other only with Android. That single fact decides most of this comparison — but not all of it.

Design and build

Apple sticks with its rounded rectangle. Series 10 is just 9.7 mm thick, roughly 10 % thinner and lighter than the Series 9, in 42 mm or 46 mm sizes and a choice of aluminium or titanium. It disappears on the wrist.

Samsung goes the opposite way. The Watch 8 Classic is a round 46 mm watch with a stainless-steel case, sapphire crystal, and the physical rotating bezel fans have been asking for since it disappeared. You turn the bezel to scroll menus — tactile, precise, and genuinely more useful than a touchscreen. It is heavier and thicker, but it looks and feels like a traditional watch.

Display

Both screens are excellent. Apple's wide-angle OLED stays readable from an angle — handy when your wrist is down — and peaks at 2000 nits. Samsung's 1.34" Super AMOLED goes brighter still at 3000 nits and is protected by scratch-resistant sapphire. In direct sunlight the Galaxy has the edge; for glanceability and off-axis viewing, Apple's panel is the smarter design.

Health and fitness

This is the closest fight. Both track heart rate, ECG, blood oxygen, sleep and workouts accurately. Series 10 adds sleep apnea notifications and a water-temperature sensor, and its data feeds into Apple's mature Health app. The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic counters with body-composition (BIA) measurement, a new Antioxidant Index read from your thumb, a Vascular Load metric during sleep, and an AI running coach. Samsung measures more; Apple's ecosystem presents it more clearly.

Performance and battery

Samsung's 3 nm Exynos W1000 runs Wear OS 6 (One UI 8 Watch) smoothly and quickly. Apple's S10 chip and watchOS remain the smoothest software on any watch. The real gap is endurance: the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic lasts around 30 hours with the always-on display, closer to 40 with it off, while the Apple Watch Series 10 is still an 18-hour watch — you charge it every day. Both top up fast, roughly 0–80 % in half an hour.

Price and value

In our price comparison the two land close together: the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic starts around 200 €, the Apple Watch Series 10 around 250 €. If your budget is tighter, the standard Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 offers the same internals without the steel bezel, and the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is there for anyone who wants multi-day battery on the Apple side.

Verdict

Buy the watch that matches your phone — there is no way around it. On an iPhone, the Apple Watch Series 10 is the obvious choice: thinner, lighter, faster software, best-in-class integration. On Android, the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic is the more satisfying object: the rotating bezel, brighter sapphire screen, longer battery and deeper body metrics make it the enthusiast's pick. Neither is a wrong answer — your smartphone already made the decision for you.
